Amid Gujjar protest threat 2nd leg of yatra postponed

Himmat accused Col Bainsla of “playing with the interest of the community to meet his personal political ends.”The Bainsla faction of Gujjar leaders meanwhile held public protest meeting at Jacolath Kurd at Sawai Madhopur on Thursday. Col Bainsla said the three leaders communicated with the government "on their own" and that they made it appear as if there was a truce just round the corner between the government and the Gujjars. They claimed that the Rajasthan Rajput Arakshan Munch had extended support to the Gujjars on their main demand for segregation of the 21% OBC quota which was being opposed mainly by the Jats. "These leaders have cheated the entire community by misrepresenting the picture and hence have been sacked," he said.A section of the Gujjar leaders led by Himmat Singh had been holding talks with the government claimed that they had reached an understanding with the government on the May 19 agreement and accused the other leaders led by Col Bainsla of playing politics.

Jaipur: Chief minister Vasundhara Raje postponed the second leg of her ‘Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra’ from Bharatpur division on Thursday to August 20 as she rushed to Delhi in the morning due to the critical condition of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who passed away later in the day amidst the threat of Gujjars protest.The Gujjars who had threatened to stage protest during the Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra by the chief minister in their areas in Bharatpur division on Thursday suspended their public protests in the light of the Gaurav Yatra being postponed by the chief minister, said Shailendra Singh, general secretary of the Gujjar Arakashan Sangarsh Samiti.He said, “We are protesting the government’s failure to implement the agreement reached with the Gujjars on May 19 this year.” He said, the Gujjars had not withdrawn their protest but only suspended their stir in the light of the postponement of the yatra by the chief minister.Meanwhile, in another development Col Kirori Singh Bainsla, convener of the Gujjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti, sacked three senior members of the Samiti on Thursday for “talking to the government without his consent."The three sacked leaders include Himmat Singh, Diwan Singh and Ram Bainsla.
