Udaipur: After a dry spell of over a fortnight, heavy rains lashed Udaipur city and surrounding areas on Friday. The peasant community too sighed with relief, as it was being feared that the prolonged dry spell would harm the standing crops in a wide area in the district. The weather turned pleasant as cool breeze blew. Traffic came to a standstill as streets turned into streams and vehicular movement came to a near halt at the low-lying areas including Delhi gate, Ashok Nagar, Udiapole, Surajpole etc, as the waterlogged roads created difficulties for commuters. Choked drains due to plastic and garbage, added to the misery.Rains which started around 1pm and continued for over an hour, relieved the people from the intense humidity that had been persisting since two days.
