JAISALMER: There is big relief for farmers at last. For the last six years, due to red tapism there was an undeclared ban on digging tube wells on own land.Taking cognizance on over 1 ,000 cases, district collector OP Kasera called a meeting of officers and sanctioned files of 1,051tube wells and issued order in this regard to discoms and groundwater officers.Now around 20,000 acres of land can be irrigated and farmers can do farming using tube well. Probably for the first time since independence such a huge number of sanctions were given for digging tube wells. This is said to bring a revolution in agriculture.Kisan Jagriti Manch a few days ago had started agitation over the agriculture connections after which the matter reached the state government. On approval, directions were issued on Tuesday in which decision was taken that discom will directly permit connections for tube well. Later on behalf of the committee rule was made to give approval.In this regard, Kasera on Tuesday held a meeting and approved 1,051 files for tube wells, which was for the first time in the history of Jaisalmer.Kasera said that three Panchayat Samitis are nonnotified and there is no ban on exploiting groundwater for drinking and agriculture purposes. On Tuesday, with the district advisory committee a meeting was called and all pending files were approved. Directions were given to groundwater department officers in this regard and SE of discom has also been given directions to give connections. He said with so many tube wells, there will be revolution in agriculture and 20,000 acres of land will be irrigated, which will strengthen the economic condition of farmers.
