Rewari gang rape Haryana Police approach Kota military station to trace accused jawan

JAIPUR: A special team of Haryana Police, which came to Kota on Saturday, to track down the main accused in the Rewari gang rape case of a 19-year old woman from Rewari, has approached the Kota military station officials to apprehend the accused. According to our records, Pankaj is currently on leave and probably not in Kota where his regiment is based. The accused is a native of Rewari, but is posted in Air Defence Regiment, Kota.Confirming the report, Col Sombit Ghosh, PRO and spokesperson, defence, Rajasthan told TOI, “The police have approached the military personnel in Kota to apprehend the accused Pankaj. The accused, identified as Pankaj is a jawan in the army, confirmed officials.Although the army officials have assured all possible help, they told TOI that Pankaj was currently on leave and was expected to join his regiment back on Monday. We’ve assured them that we will extend all possible help in this task.

Since rape is a civil offence, the police will be investigating the matter, but the army will assist them in any way that it can.”Pankaj is one of the three main accused in a recent case in which a 19-year-old woman was allegedly abducted, drugged and driven around three districts of Haryana in broad daylight before being gang-raped by a dozen men.Previously, Lieutenant General Cherish Mathson, Army Commander, South Western Command had also promised that army would facilitate the arrest of the accused since the armed forces ‘do not shelter criminals’.Haryana police have reportedly sent teams to Delhi, Rajasthan as well as their home state to catch the three main accused who allegedly committed this crime.
