Talks with govt fail RSRTC unions to begin 1day strike

Various unions of Rajasthan State Roadways Employees on Sunday, announced a one-day strike. Jaipur: At least 4500 buses of Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) will not be operating for the next 24 hours, starting from 12.00 am on Monday. They have also threatened that they will decide whether they will continue the strike , after a meeting with various unions.This decision was taken by ‘Sanyukt Morcha’ after the talks with the state government failed on Sunday.At least 10,000 employees affiliated to various trade unions, excluding the Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), will join the strike.This is the fourth strike of the RSRTC unions and second in this year so far, as the state moves closer to the state assembly elections.“We had a pact with the state government when we had ended our 3-day strike in July, that the state government will implement 7th pay commission and will also release post-retirement benefits. Despite that, nothing in this regard has been fulfilled,” said ML Yadav, a senior leader of the RSRTC employees’ union and state president of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).However, the state government has warned the employees that if they would continue the strike for more than 24 hours, and if their strike will affect people for a longer period, RESMA (Rajasthan Essential Services Maintenance Act) would be imposed.The demands of the unions include — purchasing new buses, filling up vacancies, implementing the 7th pay commission and benefits for retired employees, among others.According to an estimate, at least 10 lakh passengers travel by Rajasthan Roadways buses every day.
