They said the discrepancies in the electoral roll in the state at a time when the state assembly elections round the corner need to corrected. The activists have demanded organising ward sabha to register legitimate voters in the list.Activists and Gujarat independent MLA Jignesh Mewani was addressing a press conference on Monday. He said similar problems occurred during the time of Karnataka assembly elections and the election commission (EC) gave 15 days to register the missing names. Due to the initiative by the EC, 15 lakh new voters were registered.Noted social activist Aruna Roy said, “The process should be transparent as voters are the basis of democracy. Online registration cannot work efficiently in Rajasthan due to lack of knowledge. Hence, we want block-lever officers (BLO) to be present in every ward for the registration of voters. The registration of legitimate voters will remove fake voters from the list automatically and it should be done by first week of October.”Kavita Srivastav, state president of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) alleged that there are deep inefficiency and arbitrariness in the electoral system. “The total number of households are 41,826 of which single person households are14,356 which constitute 34.2% of the households. Such households contained only one registered voter. However, as per the census 2011, the state has only 2.77% of single members for the state. So, there are discrepancies that EC has overlooked,” said Srivastav. The analysis of the constituencies in the state is being done by Centre for Research and Debates in Development Policy (CRDDP) under Abu Saleh, a social scientist and former member of Sacchar Committee. They visited 41 households in the Shastri Nagar area, Bhatta Basti, Nahari ki Nakka and in Harijan Basti Chanwariya over the past two days and more than 90 voters names were found missing from the rolls. That is an average of almost two eligible adult voter per house.
