Jaipur: A PIL has been filed in the high court against the proposed felicitation function of 6000 head constables who were promoted to ASI rank to be held at the Rajasthan Police Academy on September 19. The petition by lawyer Promod Singh is slated for hearing on Tuesday.The police department order said the department would arrange free accommodation and food to the invited ASIs and their families from September 18 to September 20 till their departure.The petition named state chief secretary, additional chief secretary (home), DGP IG police headquarter among others as party.The state government in major decision has decided to give promotion to 6000 head constables to ASI against the vacancies for the year 2018-19 based on their seniority for the first time instead of competitive examination for departmental promotion.Madhav Mitra, counsel for the petitioner, said the action of the government amounted to misuse of public money and official machinery. He said the teachers and police play a vital role in the conduct of elections. The state government had recently organized a large function in Jaipur inviting teachers appointed during the present BJP government’s tenure from all parts of the state on the teachers’ day on September 5 for the first time with huge expense to the state exchequer. They were given travel allowance apart from free boarding and lodging. Now the government is planning a facilitation function of police constables who were given promotion by this government.This, he alleged, is not only misuse of public money but government machinery. The government effort is to influence the officials ahead of the crucial assembly polls in the state.
