Commuters irked as Jaipur city bus staff continues strike

JAIPUR: Due to the ongoing strike by the staff of Jaipur City Transport Service Limited (JCTSL) staff, around 2 lakh passengers are facing difficulties in commuting every day.The JCTSL drivers and other staff are on strike for the past six days leaving about 300 low-floor buses off roads. JCTSL is losing revenue of about Rs 25 lakh everyday and if the strike continues, the losses would only mount up. The route which was charged for Rs 70 is now costing anything between Rs 100 to Rs 150, and the private buses have become more crowded.”However, the employees have not declared to end the strike yet. These buses used to ferry passengers frm over 250 square km area. We have agreed to give them medical facilities, family passes in roadways and compassionate posting.

These buses used to ferry passengers frm over 250 square km area. JCTSL is losing revenue of about Rs 25 lakh everyday and if the strike continues, the losses would only mount up. The employees had given their 24-point demands to the authorities.The managing director of JCTSL, Suresh Ola said, “We have accepted all of their demands except one. We have agreed to give them medical facilities, family passes in roadways and compassionate posting. However, their demand for getting benefits of the Seventh Pay Commission for an increased salary will be fulfilled only by the state government and we have no role to play in that.”Due to the strike, commuters are facing difficulties, especially in areas like Tonk Road, Gopalpura, Gandhi Nagar, Tonk Phatak stretch, Mansarovar, where thousands of passengers travel due to coaching centres and markets.Nikita Laddha, a student, who is taking coaching for civil services exam from an institute, said, “Things now have become very difficult. I have to either take private cabs or autos. The route which was charged for Rs 70 is now costing anything between Rs 100 to Rs 150, and the private buses have become more crowded.”However, the employees have not declared to end the strike yet.
