JAISALMER: All eyes in the political circles would be glued to Sheo BJP MLA Manvendra Singh’s Swabhiman rally at Barmer’s Pachpadra , where the son of former Union minister Jaswant Singh , is expected to part ways with the BJP, on Saturday.Manvendra Singh, who has been touring the Marwar region, extending invitations for the rally and trying to gather support, has maintained that he would take decision on his next step, after the rally. However, with the Sheo MLA maintaining a distance from the state BJP — which in turn also reportedly neglected him during the past four years — speculations are ripe of him announcing to part ways with the BJP, cutting off the family’s decades-old ties with the ruling party.Manvendra, along with his wife Chitra, have been travelling extensively in the region to ensure an impressive turnout at the rally. While Manvendra, in his address to the supporters, mainly spoke about the rally as a “fight for self-respect”, his wife has been more vocal and has openly spoken against the state leadership. The family is peeved with the BJP over Jaswant Singh being denied a ticket during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, following which, Jaswant Singh chose to contest as an independent candidate. He lost, while Manvendra was served a notice for campaigning in favour of his father and against the BJP’s winning candidate Col Sonaram. While the ruling party has accused Manvendra of maintaining a distance from the party functions, he in turn levelled allegations of being ignored. The Sheo MLA hopes to gain the support of the Rajput community, which is upset with the ruling BJP.Sources within the BJP claimed that several attempts had been made to reach out to Manvendra by senior party leaders, as an attempt to pacify him. The party might suffer a big setback in the region, particularly in seats where Rajput voters are in influential numbers.Preparations were on, in full swing at the venue on Friday. Insisting that this was a fight for self respect, Manvendra said, “We have not rented a single vehicle to bring people to the venue, nor are we making any special arrangements for them. Everyone who would be here, will be coming on his own and to support my fight.”Meanwhile, police have made strict security arrangements for the rally, said Barmer SP Manish Agarwal.
