Jodhpur: Police arrested four persons including a woman on Sunday for demanding money from a businessman and threatening him to set him up in a rape case. The victim has a business of catering in Mysore and had come to Jodhpur to meet the woman, who had befriended him over phone. Four other accused are absconding and police is searching for them.SHO (Mathania) Rajendra Singh Rajpurohit said that the accused had snatched two gold chains, one gold bracelet, 6 gold rings, one expensive watch, one mobile phone and Rs 25,000 from the victim. “They had been demanding Rs 15 lakh from the victim and had been threatening him that if he did not give this amount, they would trap him in a rape case,” said Rajpurohit.Rajpurohit said that one Sumeraram from Mathania near Jodhpur has a flourishing catering business in Mysore since long. “A woman called Rekha kept calling him and befriended him. At her insistence to meet, Sumeraram reached Jodhpur and met her at the bus stand of Tiwari Town as per schedule,” the officer said.“She sat in the vehicle with Sumeraram on the pretext of going to Jodhpur but on the way, she made him stop his vehicle, where other accused had been waiting,” the officer said. They blindfolded Sumeraram and beat him up in his vehicle. They also snatched gold jewellery that he was wearing and also took away Rs 25,000 cash from his pocket.Before leaving him, they asked him to give them Rs 15 lakh and warned him that if he did not do so, they will get a case of rape filed against him by Rekha. On complaint by Sumeraram, police began an investigation and arrested four identified as Ruparam, Nathuram, Haparam and Rekha while fpir others are absconding.Rajpurohit said that all the accused except Rekha were known to Sumeraram and had planned to extort money from him considering his lavish lifestyle.
