Cops say no evidence of firing on witnesses in Pehlu case

ALWAR: Cops in Alwar on Sunday denied that the key witnesses in Pehlu Khan lynching case were shot at while they were travelling to Behror to appear in a court on Saturday.The investigation team scanned CCTV footage from a hotel near the spot where the key witnesses had alleged they were fired upon by men sitting inside a black SUV sans registration plate at 9am.Alwar SP Rajendra Singh said footage showed the witnesses’ vehicle passing through the area at 9.04 am but there was no hint of any SUV of any colour chasing them through the particular stretch as alleged by the witnesses who were on their way to a Behror court to depose.The family on Saturday had given a complaint to Alwar SP in which they alleged that unidentified attackers wanted to dissuade them from appearing in the court. Alwar police filed an FIR and launched an investigation into the incident.Pehlu Khan’s son Irshad Khan, who was present in the car, had alleged that he was travelling with his brother Arif Khan . But the people at a hotel and eateries near it said they did not have any idea of such incident,” Singh said.The police said that soon after an FIR was registered based on their complaint, the investigators took all of them to the location for the examination and video recording. “There were several contradictions in their statements pertaining to exact location and circumstance of attack on them,” the official said, adding that an FSL unit was called to the same location after the witnesses said that the vehicle had applied sudden brakes. The Alwar police claimed that the FSL team did not find any sign of tyres on the road which should have been there in the event of a vehicle applying immediate brakes.Speaking to TOI, Alwar SP said that they have not found any evidence of firing in the case.
