JAIPUR: The police, investigating the Shankarpura honour killing case on Sunday said, that the arrested couple, who had poured kerosene on their 15-year-old daughter and later set her on fire, had initially bluffed the neighbours who spotted smoke and flames emanating from the backyard of the couple’s house. After setting the girl on fire, they had claimed that a snake died in the backyard of their house and they had just set it on fire.A day after arresting Gopal Puri Goswami (42) and his wife Parma Devi Goswami for allegedly killing their 15-year-old daughter, police produced them in the court and got their custody till October 4. Police is aiming at making a strong case having incriminating evidences against them.In the primary interrogation, it was found that when some of the villagers saw smoke coming out from the backyard of the couple’s house and enquired about it, the arrested accused claimed a snake had died there and they had set it on fire.“Some people had noticed flames coming out from the backyard and enquired about it to the arrested accused Gopal Puri Goswami (42) and his wife Parma Devi Goswami. They said that a snake had died and they had just set it on fire. However, when our team reached there, the parents claimed the girl committed suicide. This is the basic reason why they were first detained for interrogation,” said a senior officer.Police said that since the body was completely charred, collecting incriminating evidences would be a challenge. “We need DNA report and other relevant FSL report. A team of FSL also visited the spot. We will also get independent witnesses in the case,” the officer added.A 15-year-old girl studying in Class X was killed allegedly by her parents on Friday morning at Shankarpura village under Phagi police station area, nearly 45km from here. Parents were irked over her relationship with a boy in the village, and thus allegedly killed her.
