RSRTC employees shave heads over government apathy

JAIPUR: Giving momentum to the strike which entered its 13th day on Saturday, the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) employees organised ‘Terahvi’ (13th day after death) of the corporation and the state government, where 13 of its employees shaved their heads. On Friday, chief managers and depot managers of 52 depots across the state also joined the 12th day of strike of RSRTC employees’ unions. At some places, the Haryana Roadways staff also gave support to the RSRTC unions.RSRTC employees have planned a mass begging programme on Sunday. “We have read a statement of transport minister, Yunus Khan who has stated that he is ready to talk but can’t implement the Seventh Pay Commission.

It appears that there is no government in the state. I think either the government is dead or our transport department is dead. Thus, we have organised this ‘Teravi’ (13th day after death) against the state government,” said ML Yadav, a leader of the employees’ union.RSRTC workers on strike also got support from former transport minister, Brij Kishor Sharma and other Congress workers who too came in support of the employees on strike. “We have read a statement of transport minister, Yunus Khan who has stated that he is ready to talk but can’t implement the Seventh Pay Commission. If Seventh Pay Commission can’t be implemented, then why will we talk?,” questioned Yadav. On Friday, chief managers and depot managers of 52 depots across the state also joined the 12th day of strike of RSRTC employees’ unions. At some places, the Haryana Roadways staff also gave support to the RSRTC unions.RSRTC employees have planned a mass begging programme on Sunday. “If the state government has no money in its exchequer, we will earn from begging on Sunday and whatever money will be collected, it would be handed over to the state government,” said Kishan Singh Rathore, general secretary, Rajasthan Roadways workers’ union.At Sindhi camp, noisy scenes were also witnessed when some angry employees of the RSRTC pelted stones on a private bus.
