JMC removes all political posters as code of conduct comes into force

JAIPUR: Soon after the Election Commissioner ( EC ) announced the single phase elections in Rajasthan, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Sunday swung into action and removed all hoardings and banners of political parties in the state capital.The electoral juggernaut for 2018 was set rolling on Saturday, bringing the model code of conduct into force. Following the directions, political posters and banners were removed from all government buildings on Sunday.As per the EC deadline poll-related advertisements have to be cleared within 72 hours maximum. Hoardings were removed from all the major areas including Sehkar Marg, Gandhi Circle, JLN Marg, Tonk Road etc.A JMC official said, “Teams have been deployed to clear political graffiti, posters and banners. All banners and hoardings which violate the provisions of the model code, which has come into force after the announcement of the polls, will be removed.Photographs of leaders and ministers were also removed from majority of government websites, in the given deadline of 72 hours. Adhering to the norms, Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED), Urban Development and Housing (UDH), and Jaipur police removed the pictures of the elected leaders.A senior official at UDH said, “Department heads have been told to give a list of development works that have already been sanctioned, grounded and not yet started in the next 72 hours. No new work will be grounded when the model code of conduct is in place.”
