JAIPUR: Cashing on the boiling anti-BJP resentment among the non-reserved category over restoring the provisions of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, a Brahmin-Dalit Sammelan was held in Jaipur accusing BJP of creating a divide among the Hindu community. Over 500 members of both the categories gathered at Sanganer House in Jaipur raising slogans ‘Brahmin-Dalit Bhai Bhai’ and vouching to decimate ‘Untouchability’ and ‘Discrimination.’Pandit Suresh Mishra, a Congress leader and head of several Brahmin bodies said that nationwide head-on situation between the reserved and non-reserved community has always surfaced during the tenure of BJP. “All the sections of Hindus have been complimenting each other from centuries. The vertical divide among them is an attempt to create a vote bank by the BJP. The Sammelan is an attempt to bury the differences,” said Mishra. The first of a kind Brahman-Dalit Sammelan was held under the aegis of Mahatma Gandhi Samrastha Mission. Program coordinator and municipal corporator of JMC, Kamal Valmiki stated that tension between the two categories had culminated into violent clashes at several places and it was not in the interest of the nation. “Tension between the two categories is common along with hearing Pakistan Zindabad during the BJP rule,” said Valmiki. The poll bound Rajasthan is also facing the heat over the issue. The Sarvarn are considered to be BJP’s traditional vote bank. Since the issue has broken out several social Sarvarn organizations have threatened to vote against the BJP in the Vidhan Sabha polls. BJP president Amit Shah’s SC meet in Bikaner on October 4 has further deepened the fault-lines with the Sarvarns. Upbeat over the response, Mishra was quick to announce to hold similar meetings in several constituencies before the polls. Rajasthan has 34 seats reserved for SC and 33 went to BJP in 2013 polls.
