10 more people test positive for Zika, cases climb to 42

JAIPUR: With 10 more persons tested positive for Zika virus in Shastri Nagar area, the health department has started focusing more on pregnant women who have not yet completed their first trimester of pregnancy. However, they have not found all of them fine.Samples of urine and blood of these pregnant women were taken for conducting zika test.With more cases reported of Zika, heath department has increased team for conducting survey for identifying fever cases suspected to be infected with Zika virus. “If a pregnant woman, especially those who not completed their first trimester have gone to their paternal home outside Shastri Nagar area, they should not return to Shastri Nagar, until situation improves.

JAIPUR: With 10 more persons tested positive for Zika virus in Shastri Nagar area, the health department has started focusing more on pregnant women who have not yet completed their first trimester of pregnancy. The total number of patients infected now rises to 42.Directions have been issued to health teams to counsel relatives for not calling them back, if they have gone outside Zika-affected Shastri Nagar area. “If a pregnant woman, especially those who not completed their first trimester have gone to their paternal home outside Shastri Nagar area, they should not return to Shastri Nagar, until situation improves. If a pregnant woman, not have completed first trimester of pregnancy, gets infected with Zika, there are high chances of infant born with underdeveloped brain and smaller head size, the condition is known as microcephaly . "The 240 health teams conducting survey of the Zika-affected area found 79 pregnant women in first trimester on Thursday and 152 pregnant women in first trimester were found in the area. The health department officials claimed that they are continuously monitoring health of pregnant women. However, they have not found all of them fine.Samples of urine and blood of these pregnant women were taken for conducting zika test.With more cases reported of Zika, heath department has increased team for conducting survey for identifying fever cases suspected to be infected with Zika virus. "We are alert on Zika. We have found 10 more cases. We are conducting survey on war footing," said Dr Ravi Prakash Mathur, additional director (rural health), health department.Anti-larvea activities were conducted in multi storey buildings, hotels, restaurants in Sindhi camp areas.Moreover, the health department held a meeting headed by additional chief secretary (health) Veenu Gupta with district collector Siddhartha Mahajan and officials of police department along with Jaipur Municipal Corporation officials. The health department is planning to challan people if larvea are found from their houses. The health department appealed to the people to keep their houses and water tanks clean for ensuring mosquito-free environment.Sources said that out of 10 zika-infected cases reported on Friday, two of them were reported from Rajput hostel in Sindhi Camp areas.
