JCTSL staff call off strike, buses to ply from Tuesday

JAIPUR: Over two lakh commuters who were facing inconvenience for the past one month can now heave a sigh of relief as nearly 250 low-floor buses will operate from Tuesday after the Jaipur City Transport Service Limited (JCTSL) employees called off the strike on Monday. The JCTSL employees’ association claims the decision was taken to ‘call off’ the ongoing strike, which was on since September 17 after corporation agreed to fulfil its five demands, except implementation of 7th Pay Commission.JCTSL Employees’ Union, general secretary Chandra Prakash Dhakaad said, “The corporation has agreed to pay pending remuneration of four months to the employees. Contract of the conductors, which expired recently would renewed.”Earlier the JCTSL administration issued a notice to the union employees to stop the protest after model of conduct on October 9 was implemented. But the drivers continued with their strike. Following this, 15 employees were suspended.The union leader further claimed, the JCTSL employees who were suspended would also reinstated. A senior official at JCTSL said, “Recently, district collector also issued warning to these protesters to call off the strike as model code of conduct came into effect and Section 144 was enforced.”Source at JCTSL added, “As the services were discontinued, commuters of longer routes were facing a massive problem.
