'Virus not life-threatening, but residents still scared'

Since health department's teams camping and regularly conducting surveys for more than 25 days in the area have left residents even more scared about the disease. "Since I have been tested positive for Zika, people are maintaining a distance from me. They think that I had some strange disease," said a 35-year-old, Nalini Agarwal (name changed), a resident of Ram Nagar area of Shastri Nagar. I do not know why they are so scared of the disease," he said.However, those people who are tested positive for Zika are facing a different sort of problems. "She was tested positive for Zika seven days ago.

JAIPUR: With 94 cases of Zika have already reported from the city, the scare of Zika has taken people of Shastri Nagar in its grip.Patients who are being treated for fever are expressing fear of the disease. "The first question of fever patients coming these days is- do I have Zika. People are scared of the disease. They are not aware that Zika is not life-threatening. In majority of the cases, such cases do not require even hospitalisation," said Dr Adil Aziz, a Shastri Nagar-based doctor (consultant medicine).He said that there is a need to aware people that there is no need to panic if they are tested positive for Zika. "They (fever patients) come with anxiety for treatment of fever. Fear of Zika can be seen on their faces. I do not know why they are so scared of the disease," he said.However, those people who are tested positive for Zika are facing a different sort of problems. I am fine now."She was tested positive for Zika seven days ago. She said that the health teams are regularly visiting her house and they also provided her mosquito net asking her to use it for at least 10 to 15 days. Since health department's teams camping and regularly conducting surveys for more than 25 days in the area have left residents even more scared about the disease."For over 20 days, the teams of health department are continuously visiting houses. The teams are coming to our houses frequently checking storage of water for larvae and also asking us if there is any fever case in the area," said, Ajit Sharma, a resident of Shastri Nagar area.
