It was raised during the Alwar Lok Sabha bypoll early this year. Alwar itself is a Lok Sabha constituency, but because of its unique location and population distribution three of its 11 assembly segments are parts of Bharatpur (Kathumar), Dausa (Thanagazi) and Jaipur (Bansur) Lok Sabha constituencies. The BMA has said the factories have sought places to dispose of industrial wastes, but nothing has been done. Alwar is a classic case of neglect and deprivation by successive governments in the state. BJP’s Gyan Dev Ahuja, who hit national headlines as “JNU condom counting legislator” in 2016, was a labour leader from the MIA.The Sariska tiger reserve, which attracts huge tourists, is also facing the government apathy.

Alwar is a classic case of neglect and deprivation by successive governments in the state. One of the most industrially-developed districts of Rajasthan lacks infrastructure and basic healthcare facilities. The previous Congress government built a 500-bed ESIC hospital and medical college at a cost of around Rs 800 crore. Built in line with Delhi’s AIIMS, the hospital is, however, yet to be inaugurated as the present BJP government has been dilly-dallying over “technical issues”. It was raised during the Alwar Lok Sabha bypoll early this year. People of Alwar have to go to either Delhi or Jaipur for medical treatment. The BJP government, too, met with stiff resistance from farmers, backed by Congress, when while laying supply lines from Siliserh lake, about 20km from the city, to eradicate Alwar’s drinking water woes. The government had to shelve its plan following farmers’ agitation. So, the plight of the people of Alwar continued.Alwar is probably the only district in the country that is represented in the Lok Sabha by four MPs. Alwar itself is a Lok Sabha constituency, but because of its unique location and population distribution three of its 11 assembly segments are parts of Bharatpur (Kathumar), Dausa (Thanagazi) and Jaipur (Bansur) Lok Sabha constituencies. Though people elect four MPs and 11 MLAs, the district — also part of Delhi-NCR — has been crying for attention.Industrial town of Bhiwadi, which has about 5,000-6,000 factories, provides employment to thousands of people, but it is in dire need for civic amenities. The Bhiwadi Manufacturing Association has recently protested over lack of sewerage lines and proper roads. The BMA has said the factories have sought places to dispose of industrial wastes, but nothing has been done. The area’s natural slope is towards Haryana, but the neighbouring state has stopped flow of industrial wastes, saying its agricultural land will be ruined. The Matsya Industrial Area (MIA) — once the biggest industrial hub — is in shambles with crumbling infrastructure. More than 200 factories have shut, leaving at least 25,000 workers out of work. BJP’s Gyan Dev Ahuja, who hit national headlines as “JNU condom counting legislator” in 2016, was a labour leader from the MIA.The Sariska tiger reserve, which attracts huge tourists, is also facing the government apathy. Poachers killed two tigers this year in the reserve, which faces competition from Sawai Madhopur’s Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. The land, dominated by Yadavs, Brahmins, Jats, Meenas and Meo Muslims, has earned bad publicity for wrong reasons. The Pehlu Khan lynching over cow smuggling has created a divide among people. The case is likely to impact the December 7 assembly elections.
