Jaipur: Barely a few weeks before the state assembly elections tension prevailed in Ramganj area in the Walled City late on Sunday afternoon. Tension started when members of two communities pelted stones at each other over a minor tiff in which five persons including two policemen were injured.Trouble began at 1.30 pm in a dingy alley near Jeen Mata Temple after a biker hit a minor girl. This triggered tension in the area with youths from two communities pelting stones at each other. The police resorted to use of force to dispel crowds.According to additional commissioner of police (crime) Nitin Deep Blaggan, three FIRs have been registered and eight detained. “There was a dispute in the area a few days ago when a few youths tried to place flags above houses. On Sunday, when one of those involved in the dispute accidentally hit a minor girl, it snowballed into stone-pelting,” Blaggan said, ruling out rumours of curfew being imposed.“Some people spread rumours on the internet that police had fired pellet guns and enforced curfew which is false. The situation is under control and no fresh incident of violence has been reported,” he said.Sources told TOI that Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) has been moved into area. BJP MLA from Adarsh Nagar, Ashok Parnami, also reached the spot and blamed Jaipur police for failing to act on time even though Ramganj has been earmarked as one of the sensitive spots in the city.Jaipur police, however, said that adequate security arrangements have been made in the area. “It is far-fetched to link elections with sporadic incidents like the one that happened in Ramganj. We will keep a close watch in the area from now on,” an official told TOI.Sunday’s incident brought back memories of September last year when the same locality was put under curfew following similar clashes between police and locals. A senior official of Rajasthan police told TOI that additional forces are guarding every nook and corner of the area. “A small accident of a minor girl began the tension. She sustained minor injuries and her condition is fine. We conducted a peace committee meeting to resolve stalemate,” an official said.
