Jaisalmer gears up for polls will set up communication network for remote areas edited

Three strategic mobile parties are being deployed at remote areas on the Indo-Pak border and permanent check posts are being constructed on the border.Jodhpur Range IG Sanjeev Narjari on Sunday inspected Pokhran assembly areas and had a meeting with police officers. He took feedback from the officers in regard to conducting peaceful elections and gave necessary directions. He also visited Barmer-Balotara areas.District election officer Om Kasera said Jaisalmer district has two assembly constituencies - Jaisalmer and Pokhran. The total area of the district is 38,392 sqkm and is adjoining 471 km long Pakistan border, it is the biggest district of the state which is equivalent to Kerala.He said Jaisalmer constituency is very big and scattered and in case of any incident, information should reach district the headquarters immediately for which communication network is being strengthened in many ways. Many arrangements have been made for better connectivity.SP Jagdish Chandra Sharma said there are many police stations from where the information sent by wireless set does not reach the control team in Jaisalmer directly. It comes after reaching many police stations to the concerned police station and the control room. Looking at this problem repeater wireless centres are being set up at 6-7 places, such places have been identified. Soon, police will get satellite phones for which request has been made to the government through district administration.He said that permanent check points have been made at five border points at Bikaner, Barmer, Jodhpur and other districts where police will check all vehicles round-the-clock to catch consignment of liquor, drugs etc. Apart from this, vigilance has been increased at villages in Indo-Pak border areas. To keep a watch on Jaisalmer and Pokhran assembly constituencies and to deal with any untoward incidents three strategic mobile police parties will patrol.He said in the entire district there are 107 critical polling booths and 24 vulnerable booths. He said 95% weapons have been deposited in the police stations and a total of 4,107 weapons have been deposited. Apart from this, out of 240 history-sheeters, 235 have been bound along with 4,762 people have been bound under various sections including 10 hardcore criminals. All police officers have been directed to go to their areas and to check the polling booths.
