Rajasthan elections: Stage all set for polling amid heavy security

JAIPUR: Nearly 640 companies of central para military forces ( CPMF ) and at least 13,000 home guards from neighbouring states, will join the Rajasthan police, to ensure smooth and peaceful elections in the state. At least 1.44 lakh policemen would be on duty at more than 51,687 booths across the state for the elections on 199 seats.OP Galhotra, director general of police, talking to TOI on Thursday, said, “640 companies of CPMF are already there, plus 13,000 home guards from the neighbouring states have joined us. As far as the total number of policemen on duty for the elections is concerned, there would be 1,46,146 policemen who would be on duty.”At least 7,900 booths would be having one unit of central para military forces, having six to eight security personnel. “We have also identified 7,791 booths as extra-sensitive in the state, which are mainly situated in eastern and western Rajasthan. Let me assure you, we have adequate number of forces to ensure smooth and peaceful elections in the state,” Galhotra added.Likewise, for every 10 booths, there would be mobile police parties having four to five policemen. “We have 5,180 mobile parties in the state. In these mobile parties, the supervisory officer would be either inspector or a deputy superintendent of police (DySP) rank officer. Also there is going to be three-tier supervision,” the DGP added.On the seizures of cash, narcotics and liquor, the DGP, said, “We have seized nearly Rs 15 crore so far, 10 lakh litres of liquor, 1.6 lakh weapons deposited by the licensees, 2.11 lakh people, on whom there were non-bailable arrest warrants, were arrested and at least 3.88 lakh persons were bound down. Also our teams in various districts managed to seize nearly 55,000 kg of narcotics.”At several booths, there would be the arrangement of videography. Also, there would be 600 flying squads having CPMF, and also the same number of CPMF for static police pickets.“Also, where there is a poor network of mobile phones, wireless teams would be there for better communication,” he added.
