Women outshine men in voting percentage across Raj

Speaking to TOI, an official attributed the high turnout of women voters to the increasing awareness about their rights. In 2013, the women’s turnout percentage was 75.57 percent. Jaipur: Women voters of Rajasthan outshined their male counterparts once again, in using their franchise in the assembly elections held on Friday.According to the data released by the election commission, women voters’ participation stood at 74.66 percent during Friday’s polling, which is higher than the state’s total voting percentage of 74.21 percent.The desert state has traditionally recorded a high voting percentage. Similarly, out of a total of 227 transgenders, 75 exercised their vote in this election. The specially-abled voters who cast their votes were 85,620.

This year however, there was a minimal dip, with it being 74.66 percent.Their male counterparts, however, could not match the steps, as the polling percentage in male category was recorded as 73.80 percent.Jaisalmer district emerged at the top in terms of female voters’ participation with a staggering 85.88 percent, followed by Banswara, a tribal district, which recorded 83.46 percent polling on Friday.Northern districts like Ganganagar and Hanumangarh also showed the way, as women in large numbers turned up at polling booths, taking their polling percentages above 80 percent. Speaking to TOI, an official attributed the high turnout of women voters to the increasing awareness about their rights. “There have been several schemes particularly catering to women, which has raised political consciousness among them.”EC initiated Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme across the state and many young voters came forward and added their names in the voters’ list.Total voters who exercised their franchise in this election are 3,52,04,304 of which 1,82,45,723 were men and 1,69,58,506 were women. Similarly, out of a total of 227 transgenders, 75 exercised their vote in this election. The specially-abled voters who cast their votes were 85,620.
