Morning not quite showed the day for Congress

The counting day at the Congress office began amid much fanfare on Tuesday. But the day did not live up to their expectations.Minutes into the counting process, the Congress had secured a lead. It was 11.15am and the Congress workers looked slightly worried over the results. The party workers, in their enthusiasm, jumped on chairs while others jostled to reach up to the big TV screens flashing promising projections. These early numbers infused euphoria among Congress workers as they began to pour into the central hall with garlands and Sachin Piliot masks.

The din of rapturous slogans dropped to customary praises when the party’s tally began to waver. The counting day at the Congress office began amid much fanfare on Tuesday. But the day did not live up to their expectations.Minutes into the counting process, the Congress had secured a lead. The excitement soared inside the party office as they hoped to sweep the state with 135 seats.Around 11am, the trends indicated 78 seats for the BJP and 99 for the rival. These early numbers infused euphoria among Congress workers as they began to pour into the central hall with garlands and Sachin Piliot masks. By 10am, the party hoped to wrest Sanganer and Malviya Nagar from the BJP.Drums and laddus were brought, while a leader asked workers to arrange for firecrackers. The party workers, in their enthusiasm, jumped on chairs while others jostled to reach up to the big TV screens flashing promising projections. It was 11.15am and the Congress workers looked slightly worried over the results. Sanganer was showing signs of inclining towards the BJP.The drum beats, however, became slightly muffled as the party tally began to wobble even before reaching the halfway mark. At 12pm, it dawned on many supporters that their party may have to wait for a few more ballots to open before reaching the magic figure. At 12.30pm, the TV screen flashed the decisive lead its candidate from Civil Lines, Pratap Singh Kachariyawas, had secured. The candidate from Sanganer, Pushpendra Bhardwaj, had also secured a lead.The supporters seemed hopeful the party will finally live up to the expectations and reduce their nearest rival to 50 seats. However, their hopes paled quickly when Girjia Vyas trailed from Udaipur and the channels project 98 seats to the party. To keep up the enthusiasm, the Congress leaders began to boost workers with slogans like “Rajasthan ka ek hi pilot, Sachin Pilot ,” and “Vasundhra kehna man le, boriya bistar bandh le.” By 1pm, the intrigue hung heavy in the control room.By 2pm, the Congress workers found solace in the thumping victory of Sachin Pilot from Tonk. But the exuberance were tempered as neither of the two party stalwarts, Ashok Gehlot and Pilot, visited the PCC office.
