JAIPUR: New techniques such as robotic, navigation and brain bypass surgeries are gaining popularity for treatment of ailments related to brain such as tumour for more precise and accurate surgeries.Neurosurgeons from India and abroad gathered in the city on Thursday to discuss robotic and navigation techniques which are now being used for surgeries of brain tumours.“The technique, which is becoming popular abroad, is operated through a computer in the same way as the exact position of a car can be seen using GPS system,” said Dr K Ganapathi from Chennai.He said, “During the surgery, the surgeon knows the exact position of tumour in the brain through computer navigation, and if he wanders from his way, then with navigation technique, he will immediately get to know. This can save the potential damage to the second part of the patient’s brain.”Doctors are now conducting brain bypass surgery just like heart bypass surgery. In case of stroke, the doctors are bypassing the weak vein by connecting the healthy veins for maintaining blood flow in the affected area of the brain.Dr Rupesh Kumar said that it is effective in patients whose veins have become very weak. He said the endovascular technique is also a new mode in the treatment of aneurism in the brain. It is treated by adding coiling or stent through the vein from the foot.
