17 cattle die of food poisoning in Jodhpur village

Jodhpur: Sixteen cows and one buffalo died of food poisoning, after consuming fodder in Kaparda village near Jodhpur on Saturday morning. The team of veterinarians conducted postmortem on the cattle and arranged for proper disposal of the carcasses away from the village.Choudhary said that no case has been registered in the matter so far, as there was nothing suspicious, deliberate or no ill intent. “On Saturday morning, the green fodder was purchased using that fund and this fodder was given to the cattle across the village,” said Choudhary.He further said that most of this fodder was not fit for the cattle’s consumption since it was raw, which triggered indigestion causing instant bloating of their stomachs.“The moment the cattle started devouring this fodder, their condition worsened due to food poisoning and they succumbed one after the other,” Choudhary said.Seeing this, the villagers panicked and immediately withdrew the fodder served to the cattle. The fodder, purchased by the villagers, was given to the cattle across the village, after consuming which, the cattle started to succumb one after the other.A team of veterinarians rushed to the spot after receiving the information and attended to the ill cattle.According to the SDM (Bilara) Mukesh Choudhary, total 17 cattle, including six young ones, could not be saved, but the teams of veterinarians succeeded in reviving over 100 others after timely medication.He said that there was a religious function in the village sometime back, in which fund was collected for fodder for the cattle.
