Robert Vadra mother in Jaipur for ED questioning

JAIPUR: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra and her mother-in-law Maureen Vadra reached Jaipur on Monday where the duo is required to depose before the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) regional office in connection with an alleged land scam in Bikaner district.Vadra and his mother were escorted from Jaipur airport to a star hotel in the city. The agency also suspected that money was laundered as people bought land for cheap using forged documents. They will appear before the probe agency on Tuesday morning.Sources in ED told TOI investigators have prepared 55 questions for Vadra and his mother.On January 21, the Rajasthan High Court’s principal seat at Jodhpur had asked mother-son to appear for the ED investigation. “This action is in compliance with Rajasthan HC order passed on January 21. The investigation agency, however, had not named Robert Vadra in its FIR under the PMLA.The Rajasthan government in 2015 had issued orders related to cancellation of mutations (transfer of land ownership) of 374.44 hectares of land after it was found that the allotments had been made in the names of illegal private persons.

Till November, we had sent him three summons but he never turned up,” said a senior ED officer at Jaipur on Thursday.The ED in 2015 had registered a case, taking cognisance of FIRs (and later chargesheets) filed by the Rajasthan police following a Bikaner tehsildar’s complaint of alleged wrongdoings and forgery in allotment of lands in Bikaner district.The ED’s quizzing of Robert Vadra is likely to centre around his alleged connection with a firm, Ms Skylight Hospitality Private Limited, which had purchased land in the area.
