Jaipur: Health department has seized adulterated black pepper from a compound of a private food company at VKI on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, the department officials raided the compound in the morning and seized 4,340 kg of black pepper.“Samples of a black pepper were dissolved in the water laced with some chemicals. Soon the water turned dark black which established the high rate of adulterants in the pepper. On the basis of the tested samples, the stock of the pepper was seized from the compound as evidence. The quality of black pepper was very poor,” said a health official.Officials grilled owner Harish Agarwal who revealed the place where the stocked was kept. “It is too early to ascertain that what kind of chemicals were mixed in the pepper. But, it is clear that it is very harmful for the consumers," said a health official. The seizure is part of the series of raids by the health department on food products in the city. It had seized almonds and ghee in the last week.
