JAIPUR: Extending solidarity with the five CRPF martyrs from the state, who were killed in the Pulwama terror attack , students of Rajasthan University cancelled their annual cultural programme ‘Ghoomar’, which was scheduled to be held from February 19.The university student union president also announced that the Rs 11 lakh collected to fund the three-day festival, would be donated to the families of the martyrs. R K Kothari, vice-chancellor of Rajasthan University said, “The decision was collectively taken by the university administration and Rajasthan university student union, expressing solidarity with the martyrs of the terror attack.” Condolences and financial assistance poured in for martyrs’ families on the day their bodies were cremated with full military honours, on Saturday.Various organizations, schools, colleges, seers, politicians and the general public mourned for the martyrs. While markets remained closed in Jaipur, Churu, Pali, Jhunjhunu and at several other places in Rajasthan, to condemn the terror attack, individuals and organisations came forward and announced financial assistance to the families.Rajasthan medical college teachers’ association in the city have expressed their condolences and decided to donate their one salary to the martyrs’ families, expressing solidarity. More than 500 doctors have made contributions for their family members. Dr Dhananjai Agarwal said, “We have lost our brave soldiers in the terrorist attack. The doctors’ fraternity is pained with the incident and expresses solidarity with the kin of the martyrs.”Erstwhile royal family member, Padmini Devi of Jaipur and Diya Kumari Foundation also announced financial support of Rs two lakh each to the five martyrs from Rajasthan. Apart from this, the CRPF jawans from Rajasthan injured in the incident will also receive financial support. “The family has always had great affinity to the armed forces and hugely appreciate their contribution in safeguarding the country,” said Diya Kumari.On the day of cremation, grief and rage struck the entire state, even as over 2,000 different protests continued to be staged across the city.
