The international conference was organised by government doctors from February 15, which concluded on Sunday.Cardiologist from Odisha, Deveshwar Dev said, “Smoking in pregnancy directly impacts the health of the foetus. Smoking increases risk of congenital heart defect by two times. Also, mother remains at risk of heart disorders.” According to recently released government survey, Global Adult Tobacco Survey, the percentage of women smoking tobacco is 3.7 in the state. In the conference, speakers claimed that at present, there is 20% of population of the country suffering from heart disorders. By 2020, the number of persons with heart ailments is expected to double. Doctors suggested that change in lifestyle helps in preventing heart disorders.“More than 500 representatives from the country and abroad attended the conference. At the conference, they discussed different types of heart complications and their latest treatment, along with heart disease from lifestyle, BP, Sugar”, said Dr SM Sharma, additional principal SMS Medical College and senior professor (cardiology).In the conference, cardiologists conducted presentations on new research related to heart diseases in different sessions, heart disease risk, heart failure, cholesterol risk, rheumatic heart disease, loss of radiation, arrhythmia, structural heart disease and diabetes.
