People enjoy Desert Festival in Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer: In the ongoing Desert Festival here, a record was made on Sunday when 5,000 people tied turbans in 15 minutes at the Shaheed Poonam Singh Stadium. Turban tying competition was organised for foreigners also and they showed a lot of excitement. Turban tying competition was also held in which Chagu Khan won the first prize. Girdhar Vyas of Bikaner with his 28-feet-long moustache was centre of attraction hereof Girdhar Vyas of Bikaner was centre of Point of desert festival.The three-day desert festival was inaugurated on Sunday by district collector Namit Mehta and Jaisalmer MLA Rooparam Dhandev by releasing balloons in the air at Poonam Singh Stadium. The stadium was jam-packed with people in colourful attire.There were many competitions held such as Mr Desert, Miss Moomal etc.

Many tourists have gathered here to participate in the festival. Many interesting new programmes have been included to garner more interest. Public representatives, SP and other officers were present on this occasion. The stadium was jam-packed with people in colourful attire.There were many competitions held such as Mr Desert, Miss Moomal etc. Turban tying competition was also held in which Chagu Khan won the first prize. Turban tying competition was organised for foreigners also and they showed a lot of excitement. The foreigners got to know the local story of Moomal and Mahendra during the competition.On the second day on Monday, large number of tourists and local people took part in the festival. Panihari Matka race was organised that was well attended by the Indian and foreign women.At the Dedansar ground Indian and foreigner men and women took part in tug-of-war competition with enthusiasm and audience too enjoyed it. Eleven participants in all categories took part in women category, in both the rounds team with foreign won. Decorated camels enthralled the audience and nine participants took part.A polo match was also organized between Camel Polo Association of India and Royal Desert Safari teams. Royal Desert Safari team won the match.
