Pakistani inmates in Rajasthan jails moved to separate barracks

JAIPUR: The Pakistani nationals lodged in Rajasthan jails were quickly moved to different barracks and cells after Wednesday’s incident wherein a 45-year-old Pakistani convict Shakir Ullah was killed by four other inmates.The Directorate of Rajasthan Prisons shot an alert to the state’s Central Jails , and district jails to tighten the security of 16 Pakistani nationals with immediate effect.DG (Jail) NRK Reddy said that keeping in mind the security and safety of these inmates in the wake of Wednesday’s incident, the Pakistani inmates were shifted to separate cells within the jail premises.There are currently five Pakistani inmates in Jaipur Central Jail , two in Jodhpur, three in Sriganganagar, five in Bikaner, and one lodged in Kota jail.An official informed TOI that the Kota jail authorities on Wednesday evening moved its lone Pakistani inmate- Mohammad Hanif from a regular barrack to a special barrack. A major security operation is also underway across the state.“We have recovered mobile phones from Alwar and Bharatpur jails, we are assessing the security status of each and every prison of the state,” an official said.The security was also beefed up at ward 10 of the Jaipur Central Jail where convicts of heinous crimes are kept.
