Jaipur: After two youths on a bike snatched eight chains in two days, the Jaipur police on Saturday set up checkpoints and barricades across the city.Police commissioner Anand Shrivastava said that all police stations were asked to fortify the check points in their areas. “The same gang struck at eight different locations for two days in the city, because of which we decided to set-up new checkpoints and search points to keep a tab on the accused,” added Shrivastava.Despite the police efforts, no trace of the biker could be found till late Saturday evening. “We had come close to nabbing the accused on a few occasions. But he managed to escape, however, all necessary arrangements are being made to arrest the accused,” he said.The preliminary investigation indicates that two youths on the bike wearing caps and glasses have been striking at will across multiple locations of the city. On Friday, they decamped after snatching chains from women in Sodala, Jawahar Circle, Jhotwara, and Murlipura. The first incident was reported in Nand Puri on Friday under Sodala police station where accused snatched a chain from a 58-year-old woman while she was walking home. Another incident was reported at Jawahar Circle’s Akhil Nagar area where the bike-borne youth snatched a gold chain from a woman who was parking her scooters outside her house. Two other incidents came to light from Murlipura and Laxmi Nagar in Jhotwara.
