Robbers uproot ATM, flee; second case within 24 hours in Jaipur

JAIPUR: An ATM at Pragpura in Jaipur district was looted on the intervening nights of Friday and Saturday. On the intervening nights of Thursday and Friday, unidentified thieves uprooted a rickety ATM from Kanota area and fled after packing it onto a vehicle late on Thursday night.

JAIPUR: An ATM at Pragpura in Jaipur district was looted on the intervening nights of Friday and Saturday. According to police , the robbers uprooted the whole machine, which contained approximately Rs 39 lakh. This is the second such robbery within 24 hours.The robbery happened around 2:00 am on Saturday and a police official of Pragpura police station said,”the thieves took off with the entire ATM machine in wee hours of Saturday morning. The bank authorities had just refilled the ATM which contained around Rs 39 lakh. We have lodged a FIR against unidentified persons and are going through the CCTV footage as well as talking to the people in the vicinity to check if they are aware of anything.”The gang was apparently armed and despite a guard being stationed at the ATM, managed to flee with the machine. “There were few shops close to the ATM and the guard was there at the time of the loot. According to him, there were 4-5 individuals who carried out the loot, but we are still ascertaining his statement to get a clear picture”, added the official.This is the second incident of ATM loot in just 24 hours. On the intervening nights of Thursday and Friday, unidentified thieves uprooted a rickety ATM from Kanota area and fled after packing it onto a vehicle late on Thursday night. The criminals had initially kicked at the ATM in a vain hope to cut it open before one of the gang members realized that it was far easier to take away the entire machine itself. While the bank claimed that ATM contained Rs 19 lakh, locals had claimed that the ATM was out of cash. The initial investigation in the previous loot had revealed that the gang sneaked into the ATM kiosk, put adhesive brown tapes on CCTVs and went about looting the cash.
