Jodhpur: Four ministers of state, from the districts of desert have been facing opposition from their respective constituencies to stand again in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The party high command has been exploring the possibilities to field them from the other constituencies, which also includes the options provided by them. Most of these MPs have been alleged of not keeping cordial relations with party workers and other office bearers. The major opposition has emerged from the Pali constituency, where party workers and office bearers have upped the ante against the MP and MoS (Law & Justice, Corporate Affairs), P P Choudhary.Even some sitting MLAs have opposed the candidature of Choudhary from Pali constituency for the second time. They have written to the party high command explaining their perception about the opposition.“We have apprised the senior leaders and state in-charge Prakash Javadekar of our thoughts about Choudhary and expect them to consider our concerns”, said Zila Pramukh Pemaram Sirvi. The allegations include that Choudhary overlooked the senior party leaders, MLAs and other officer bearers of the party and gave importance to other people with opposition leaning. They also hold him responsible for the loss of four seats in the assembly elections. In a similar case, C R Choudhary, MP from Nagaur and MoS (Food & Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs) has also been facing opposition from party leaders and workers. He has been looking for an alternative and safer seat to contest from. According to the party sources, Choudhary has been exploring the possibilities for contesting this election from Ajmer. On the other side, veteran party leader Kolayat Devi Singh Bhati has upped the ante against the MP from Bikaner and MoS (Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation) Arjunram Meghwal in the assembly elections, citing his non-cooperation as the reason.Bhati’s daughter-in-law Poonam Kanwar had contested from Shri Kolayat constituency in the assembly elections in which Bhati alleged that Meghwal did not campaign for her in the constituency. In order to build pressure on the party to stop Meghwal’s fielding again from Bikaner; Bhati tendered his resignation which has not been accepted yet.Turf for the MP from Jodhpur and MoS (Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare) Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has also emerged thorny, as the former MP from Jodhpur constituency Jaswant Singh Bishnoi has staked his claim.“Bishnoi wished to contest last election from Jodhpur seat but on denial, he threatened to resign from the party. The party leaders, however, pacified him and gave him the post of the director of the Wool Board”, said a party leader. With this opposition in mind and not willing to antagonise the Bishnoi voters, who have a huge presence in the region, the party leadership may consider fielding Shekhawat from the other Rajput dominant seat, preferably Chittorgarh.
