JAIPUR: Rajasthan State Textbook Board (RSTB) has put the printing of Class XII Science and Maths textbooks on hold after an independent committee has highlighted typing errors and factual mistakes in the books. These books were in use in schools affiliated to Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education. Every year RSTB orders printing of books on the need-to-need basis. These books were revised by the previous government in 2016-17.The matter was highlighted after a review sub-committee for Maths and Science under the state level textbook revision committee examined these books. “During the revision, the experts found mistakes in two categories—typing and factual. They directed the matter to the education department. The department is in the process to correct the mistakes,” said an education department source. The review of textbooks is part of the state government plan of reviewing the curriculum from class I to XII. The newly formed government had accused the previous BJP government of saffronization of the curriculum by introducing chapters and content authored by writers close to the RSS.Officials learnt that the same books are being reprinted for both private and government schools they immediately put the printing on hold. The revision of books has been assigned to two bodies -- State Institute of Educational Research & Training (SIERT) for class I to VIII and Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) was given the task of revising textbooks from class IX to XII. TOI tried to contact the acting chairman of Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE), Nathmal Didel for his comment but he did not respond.Sattar Khan, chairman of Rajasthan Textbook Board said, "Our job is not to correct the mistakes. We receive in CDs from the SIERT (Class I-VIII) and RBSE (class IX-XII) and pass it to the printers. Our only responsibility is to see that books are printed on time." He neither refused nor accepted the printing of books in question.
