JAIPUR: In a broad-daylight theft, unidentified thieves broke into the house of a businessman and decamped with cash and jewellery worth over several lakhs on Wednesday.Shatrughan Mangal, a resident of Sector 19 of Pratap Nagar area had gone out to meet his family member at a hospital when thieves struck at his house. “There was cash to the tune of Rs seven lakh, jewellery, gold and silver items worth several lakhs,” Mangal told TOI. A CCTV footage retrieved from the nearby houses showed the accused breaking into his house and leaving on a bike. The police said that Mangal ran a shop of auto parts in the city and had returned home from the hospital at 2pm when he found his house ransacked.The exact amount of gold and silver valuables is yet to be ascertained. An FIR against unidentified thieves was registered by Pratap Nagar police station. An official informed TOI that the victim had gone to meet his daughter undergoing treatment, when thieves barged into his house by breaking the locks. The FSL teams collected samples from the spot. “It appears to be a conspiracy hatched after the accused conducted a proper recce of Mangal’s house. They were keeping an eye on him. We have zeroed in on a few suspects and efforts are being made to arrest the accused,” the official told TOI.An investigator said, based on CCTV footage, it appears that the accused entered the house at about 1.05pm and stayed inside till about 1.45pm. “We have spotted one masked youth coming out of the house, there could be others involved in the theft too,” said the official.
