Schools start electoral literacy programme for students

District administration has tried to include almost all the officials in various departments for the voters’ awareness program. JAIPUR: District administration Ajmer is targeting educational institutes and teachers for the voters’ awareness program in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Ajmer district collector, Vishwa Mohan Sharma said, “We want to involve youngsters for voters’ awareness program. To involve the young students in the election process, district administration has started ‘District Committee on Electoral Literacy’ under which students from classes 9 to 12 will be made aware of the importance of voting.These young students will be taught to motivate their elders and people around them to vote and participate in the elections. For this, 20 minutes will be dedicated every day in schools.

In ‘Matdata Saksharta Club’ we will appoint campus ambassadors in 33 government and private colleges in the district who will motivate students in their campus and the first time voters.”In another step, around 550 newly recruited Grade-III teachers who have still not been given posting will be going door-to-door in the areas where voter turnout was low in the last parliamentary elections. They are termed as ‘Vote Gurus’ who will have a responsibility to inform people about the 19 identity cards necessary for voting and encourage them to vote. Administration has designed a mascot for the elections based on the district bird, the lesser florican, also known as kharmor which has a slogan ‘Main Hoon Kharmor, Vote Maangoon More’. District administration has tried to include almost all the officials in various departments for the voters’ awareness program.
