Jaipur: Forged “arrest warrants” of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) were used to scare and con several US citizens.Additional DCP (south) Avnish Kumar Sharma told TOI that four fake call centers operating from the city would impersonate as sleuths of the US’s Internal Revenue Service and tell their targets that an arrest warrant was issued by the agency for the non-payment of tax dues. “They also sent the photos of the forged arrest warrants to their targets and later demanded money in the form of i-tunes and wall mart cards. These cards will be sent to China and then routed back into India through hawala channels,” Sharma said.The city police on Thursday had arrested 34 people, including two girls for running fake call centres and duping foreigners on the pretext of saving tax dues and increasing their credit limits. As per officials, the accused had been running the racket from four separate locations in the city. As per estimates, they must have made about Rs 2.5 crore from the illegal operations.
