FIRs registered in jail brawl case

Jaipur: The Jaipur Central Jail on Sunday filed FIRs against inmates who attacked prison guards and injured a jailor. The police had to resort to force to control the unruly inmates that ganged up against the security staff that tried to control them.“The jailor’s finger was fractured in the clash. He had tried to intervene to dispel the unruly mob. We have identified the key conspirators and filed an FIR against them. Many of them are also on death row,” an official said.

Jaipur: The Jaipur Central Jail on Sunday filed FIRs against inmates who attacked prison guards and injured a jailor. The incident had taken place on Saturday evening. DG (prisons) NRK Reddy informed TOI that jail guards have filed FIR against the inmates even as tight security arrangements are being made to avert a repeat of Saturday’s events.Ram Mahendra, the jailor who led a platoon of guards to control the inmates was injured in the clashes. The sources informed TOI that after a Pakistani inmate was killed in a prison brawl with other inmates a few weeks ago, the jail introduced a slew of measures to control notorious inmates of high-security ward number 10, including dividing inmates into different groups with each group assigned a different TV and recreational time slots.These measures apparently did not go down well with inmates, an inspection of their cells by guards ended up in many of them attacking the guards and the reinforcements. The police had to resort to force to control the unruly inmates that ganged up against the security staff that tried to control them.“The jailor’s finger was fractured in the clash. He had tried to intervene to dispel the unruly mob. We have identified the key conspirators and filed an FIR against them. We have also issued strict directions of keeping those inmates under close vigil round-the-clock,” said the official.“We have been trying to bring some order and discipline in that particular ward which includes some of the most notorious inmates convicted in crimes such as murders, Official Secrets Acts, rapes and terrorism. Many of them are also on death row,” an official said.
