Local self government department urges EC to postpone municipal polls

The state election commission (SEC) on Friday held a meeting with the officials of home, health, Panchayati raj and local self-government department.

Election Commissions all over the world are trying to figure out logistics and resources to conduct election in this new normal of Covid-19. In a diverse and populated country like

India, almost every time there is an election going on somewhere in the country.

 

While Rajasthan Election Commission was trying to figure out on how to arrange for the upcoming local bodies elections scheduled to be held in August, The local self-government department itself came out on Friday and urged the EC to postpone elections on 129 municipal bodies keeping in view the rising Covis-19 cases in the state.

 

The state election commission (SEC) on Friday held a meeting with the officials of home, health, Panchayati raj and local self-government department to discuss the possibility of holding elections to 129 municipal bodies(whose term is going to end in August). Six municipal corporations (elections scheduled as per the high court order) and the remaining 3,859 gram panchayats in view of the present Covid situation.
