Months long crisis in the political corridors of Rajasthan due to infighting between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his Deputy CM Sachin Pilot rests for now after the Pilot and other Congress MLAs meet with Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi late on Monday night.

As Pilot bought peace with the Congress, rebel party lawmakers began returning to Jaipur today and meeting Gehlot, who recently said he would do whatever the central leadership decided in respect of dissidents.

Media reports claim that Sachin Pilot has been given assurance from the leadership that he could be considered for the chief minister’s job closer to the Assembly elections due in December 2023. Pilot might be offered the post of  AICC general secretary in Delhi for now.

A written commitment has been made to set up a high level panel comprising Priyanka Gandhi, Ahmed Patel and KC Venugopal to “address the issues raised by Pilot and the aggrieved MLAs.

For now, some of the 18 MLAs in Pilot’s camp may find a place in the state cabinet as and when a reshuffle takes place. Pilot’s loyalists who were sacked as heads of the Youth Congress and NSUI state units could also be rehabilitated. The cases against all the rebels will be dropped too, media reports stated.

For the Congress party, this truce is a win as they managed to avert the loss of one more state government as they faced in Madhya Pradesh. Now looks like, Gehlot will sail through easily if the Confidence motion comes up in the state assembly session scheduled to start from August 14.
