Gehlot said some roads do not need repairs for a long time while others get damaged quickly. Provision should be made to put the onus of maintaining quality on the contractor, he added.

Rajasthan Chief Minister has directed its officials to incorporate provisions in the Contracts of Public Work Departments for maintenance of roads by contractors for five years as against the current time frame of three years.

The said directive was ordered during a review meeting of the PWD through a video conference from the chief minister’s residence.

Gehlot said some roads do not need repairs for a long time while others get damaged quickly. Provision should be made to put the onus of maintaining quality on the contractor, he added.

He also directed officials to make sure that no compromise is done in terms of the quality of the roads. There is a provision for quality checks of roads funded by World Bank and Asian Development Bank and National Highway Authority by independent engineers.

Third-party inspection of road construction should be done by implementing the same system to maintain the quality of roads constructed under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) and NABARD.
