Dungarpur Violence: 55 people have been arrested in connection to the violence

The violent protest went on for four days, from Thursday to Sunday. Reportedly, from late Sunday night, the situation is under control but tense.

As per police officials, 55 people have been arrested so far in connection with the violence that erupted in Dungarpur amid the protest by the members of tribal community demanding recruitment under unreserved vacant seats of government school teachers.

"35 cases have been registered at Sadar and Bichhiwara police stations and 55 people have been arrested in connection with violence in Dungarpur, Rajasthan. Raids are being conducted to nab the rest of the accused. Efforts are being made to recover looted items," Jay Yadav, Dungarpur Superintendent of Police (SP) said.

On Thursday evening, protest by candidates of the 2018 teachers` recruitment exam on National Highway 8 in Bichhiwara area of Dungarpur turned violent as the protestors’ pelted stones over the police force and torched various vehicles.

They demand that 1,167 unreserved posts of government teachers be filled with scheduled tribe (ST) candidates.
