Director John McCrite, with his feature documentary ‘Pink Belt Mission’, highlights Martial Arts expert Aparna Rajawat’s tireless efforts of making India a safer place for women. The documentary is slated to premiere at the Jaipur International Film Festival on January 19.

Aparna Rajawat, a 16-time women’s martial arts champion, began her foundation ‘Pink Belt Mission’ with the sole purpose of empowering women by teaching them self-defence, legal rights, and enhancing their mental strength. Aparna, along with a group of young women who have trained under her, travel across remote villages and big cities to create self-awareness among women and to make them stronger mentally and physically.

On February 19, 2020, Aparna along with the women associated with the Pink Belt Mission attempted to break the Guinness World Record for training the maximum number of women during one self-defence lesson which resulted in their cause gaining worldwide recognition.

Commenting on the film premiering at the Jaipur International Film Festival, director John McCrite says, "We are really thrilled and eagerly waiting to know the response for our film at Jaipur International Film Festival. I hope the film will bring attention to Aparna and the women of the Pink Belt. To shine a light on all the wonderful works they are doing. It’s a story that deserves an audience. I hope the audience will be moved and inspired by it. I hope it will reach young girls and women in the world and they will say, “If Aparna can do it, I can do it.” He adds, "I met Aparna while I was on vacation in India and she was my tour guide. During our trip, she told me of the horrors that women in India face on a daily basis. I knew I wanted to help her and Pink Belt Mission, but I wasn`t sure how. A few months later, Aparna came to Los Angeles for vacation and stayed at my home. I asked her if I could film her telling her stories about growing up in India and how she started the Pink Belt Mission. She agreed. After I saw the footage, I showed my business partner, Dana Jackson, and she and I agreed to film Aparna`s story in India."

Aparna Rajawat whose efforts have impacted so many lives hopes that the film will inspire more women to break any and every shackle holding them back, “We started the Pink Belt Mission with one goal and that was to empower women across the country, across every stratum of society and even across the world. Mental strength is just as important as physical strength and the knowledge of one’s rights will always keep them in good stead. I hope through this film, more women are inspired and that the message of empowerment reaches far and wide. It is the need of the hour,” she says.
`Pink Belt Mission` has designed and implemented three different programmes centred around self-defence, education, and vocational training. So far, it has impacted the lives of over 1.5 lakh young girls and women.
