Rajasthan: 320 doses of Covid-19 vaccine stolen from Jaipur hospital amid vaccine shortage

The vaccine theft comes at a time when Rajasthan is facing a severe Covid-19 vaccine shortage.

In a shocking incident of Covid-19 vaccine theft, 32 vials of Bharat Biotech`s Covaxin that contains 320 doses have been stolen from Jaipur`s Kanwatia Hospital in Shastri Nagar on Wednesday morning. 32 vials of Covaxin, being transported from a cold storage to the vaccine centre have been stolen.

A vial of Covaxin contains ten doses. the Superintendent of Kanwatia Hospital in Jaipur has registered a case with the police on the instructions of Chief Medical Officer Narottam Sharma. This comes at a time when the corona vaccine stock has already dried up in Jaipur and many vaccination centres have been closed

The police have registered a case under Section 380 of the IPC and started an investigation. Jaipur`s Kanwatia Hospital received doses of Covaxin on April 12, on checking the stock the hospital administration figured out that 32 vials of the vaccine were missing. The hospital committee investigated for two days but nothing was found, later on, Wednesday the hospital administration lodged a complaint with the police.

Corona Virus is increasing rapidly in Rajasthan. In the last 24 hours, more than 5 thousand new Covid-19 positive cases have been reported, while 28 people succumbed to the virus.
