The threat of the Covid-19 virus in the country is not over yet. 11 patients infected with the kappa variant of Covid-19 have been found in Rajasthan.

Earlier in Uttar Pradesh, 109 samples were tested at King George`s Medical College, Lucknow, out of which two samples were found positive for the Kappa variant positive while 107 cases were found infected with the delta variant.

Origin of Kappa Variant

The Kappa variant of Corona (b.1.167.1) was first detected in India in October 2020. It is a double mutant strain of coronavirus. Cases of the kappa variant are reported to be increasing rapidly in Brazil and South Africa. Given its complex nature, the WHO has classified it as a "variant of interest".

Effectiveness against vaccines

Research suggests that the kappa variant has the ability to overcome the immunity created by both natural infection and vaccine. This is the reason why experts are considering this variant to be extremely contagious and dangerous.
