Burglars cut open ATM, steal Rs 5.25 lakh

"It's a major security breach as the criminals stayed inside the bank for several hours. "After they failed to break open the gate of the strong room, they barged into the ATM room and cut open the cash box of the ATM with the help of a gas cutter," a police official said, adding that criminals fled with Rs 5.25 lakh in cash.The senior officials of the Khumer police reached the bank and quizzed several people, including the bank staffers and those entrusted with the security of the bank. They easily broke the wall of the bank and sneaked into the bank premises and made away with the cash," a police official said, adding that bank's security guards will also be quizzed for their apparent failure to prevent the crime.Interestingly, neither city police nor the bank staffers were aware of the heist until a customer alerted them. "One customer came to the ATM to withdraw the cash, suddenly, he called out all of us and we found that ATM's cash box was broken, we informed the police about the case," an eye witness told TOI.The police said that they have asked the FSL to collect the finger prints from the spot, "We are examining the CCTV footage of the ATM and the bank to identify the criminals, search teams have been deployed across several pockets of the city," a police official told TOI.
