Jaipur Development Authority takes possession of prime 12-bigha land

JAIPUR: It was a windfall for the cash-strapped Jaipur Development Authority (JDA). JDA officials said that they have fenced the land and taken possession of it. The land, estimated to cost crores, is also close to the Jaipur airport. The JDA had received around Rs 73.22 crore from that land deal.It had received a whopping Rs 15,550 per sq m then.Now, having added another prime area to its land bank, JDA has become financially stronger to take up developmental works. The farmers had then moved court following the acquisition and obtained a stay order.The farmers continued to hold possession of the land for at least 42 years as the matter was in the court.

JAIPUR: It was a windfall for the cash-strapped Jaipur Development Authority (JDA). After nearly 42 years of dispute, the Rajasthan High Court has ruled in favour of the agency and awarded prime 12 bighas of land to the agency.Wasting no time, JDA took possession of the land, located near Jawahar Circle, fenced the area and put up their board on Saturday. The land, estimated to cost crores, is also close to the Jaipur airport. JDA officials said that they have fenced the land and taken possession of it. After the judgment was delivered a few days ago, JDA issued directions to officials to take possession of the land without any delay.The disputed land was originally acquired by the then Urban Improvement Trust in 1075, before JDA was constituted. The farmers had then moved court following the acquisition and obtained a stay order.The farmers continued to hold possession of the land for at least 42 years as the matter was in the court. The HC decision has come as a shot in the arm for JDA, which is reeling under financial crisis.The land, which comes between Jawahar Circle and EHCC Hospital, is a veritable goldmine for the development agency. The area has witnessed a boom in land development with high-rises cropping up and prominent hotel chains setting up shop.Three years ago, the financial crisis had forced JDA to sell its prime land--4,722 sq m near Bais Godam--to the National Building Construction Corporation . The JDA had received around Rs 73.22 crore from that land deal.It had received a whopping Rs 15,550 per sq m then.Now, having added another prime area to its land bank, JDA has become financially stronger to take up developmental works.
