JAIPUR: The Congress created uproar in the assembly on Tuesday accusing the state government of trying to sell heritage properties Hotel Khasa Kothi (Jaipur) and Hotel Anand Bhawan (Udaipur) through disinvestment. Even as the government denied the charge, the opposition legislators forced the house to be adjourned thrice, each time for an hour.Jogaram Patel, who was presiding when the uproar started, had to call in marshals as the Congress MLAs, including leader of opposition Rameshwar Dudi, climbed up the Speaker's dais. The marshals had to form a wall to prevent the agitated opposition members from climbing up the dais again.Congress whip Govind Singh Dotasra raised the issue during zero hour and accused the state government of attempting to secretly sell off the prime heritage properties, which were being maintained by the Rajasthan State Hotels Corporation Ltd. "Has the government obtained permission from the Governor of Rajasthan, who holds the Corporation's shares, to disinvest the heritage properties?" Dotasra asked. The Congress whip claimed that the government invited tenders from four private firms and even transferred out 13 IAS officers who resisted the disinvestment move. "State government is a trustee of these heritage properties; who allowed it to disinvest?" Dotasra asked, adding that the government was circulating wrong figures of losses being incurred by the two hotels.Parliamentary affairs minister Rajendra Rathore intervened in the matter and refuted the charge that government was disinvesting or selling the two properties. "The government is committed to maintain the properties' heritage nature and is considering to conserve them through public participation on PPP basis," Rathore said.At the same time, Rathore said, "The consultancy firms give suggestions on ways to better maintain and run these hotels. Among all sorts of suggestions, some might have proposed to disinvest also."The opposition, however, remained unconvinced by the government response. As the chairperson Patel did not allow further discussion on the subject and denied permission to Dudi to speak, the Congress MLAs stormed into the well of the house. As the uproar intensified, deputy speaker Rao Rajendra Singh replaced Patel in the chair. However, Singh had to adjourn the house thrice before the matter could be resolved in the speaker's chamber in the evening.
